American Political Commentary On International Consciousness

By Essie Osborn

Most European countries play a pivotal role in world politics. This is an american political commentary of how it watches over the political activities of most countries, to ensure a peaceful and tranquil world. However, at some instances they are taken wrongly when it is felt that they enter into the bedroom affairs of other nations. Still it is encouraging to see how the US normally intervenes especially in issues of war and security.

When the Russian Forces violated the territorial rules by occupying Crimea which is an Ukrainian territory, US president, Barack Obama was not pleased and so it as an offensive act whereby the sovereignty of Ukraine was violated by Russia. This inflected him to making a call to the Russian President, Vladimir Putin on first March which lasted for ninety minutes. They however seemed to disagree. This is because Vladimir Putin did not see anything wrong with th operation that his army was taking.

The major controversial issue was for Russia to withdraw from the boundaries of Ukraine. To further push them to the wall, the White house declared possible non cooperation with Russia in other issues of international concern. To begin with, America threatened not to participate in the Group of Eight Summit in Sochi, Russia. Such a move would make the meeting scheduled for June unsuccessful.

This is just one example where the United States has intervened to safeguard international justice. Their wings have spread even into Africa where a country like Uganda risked political sanctions for infringing on gay rights. They argued that gay relationships were non African and being a Western affair, its practice should be limited to the West.

When he visited Africa recently, Obama surpassed Kenya which is believed to be his motherland. His reaction to this when interviewed later was that the corruption level in that country was so high that any economic assistance would be a futile move. In the light of this isolation, the Kenyan administration resolved to deal decisively with impunity and corruption.

The United States itself is a non member of the Rome Statute. Nevertheless, she has been at the forefront in assisting and supporting The Hague international criminal court to rightly exercise its mandate. Together with other members of the international community, they have shown respect to international law and have dealt decisively with rebellious cases. As a result, crimes against humanity such as massacre and massive rape have significantly reduced on the large scale.

The positives aside, the American government sometimes goes overboard in its affirmative action techniques. At times they pull the strings too tight until they appear bullish. In such circumstances, the target governments normally rebel and resort to counter attack. Such in-tolerances should be ignored at all cost. One way to bring peace is by allowing people to have their way at times.

The United States therefore finds itself in a compromising situation. Other nations would like to know their policies on various issues. However, it is the ensuing criticism accompanying such revelations that sends it to its knees. What remains is for them to be wise in their dealings so as not to hurt the feelings of others.
